Experience as a DJ:

My first love with house music came after listening to the likes of Dj Man-X, Blue Six, Jazzanova, Urban soul, Glenn Underground, Kenny Bobien, Charles Webster, Louie Vega, The Sunburst Band and Tone Control. Ever since my first encounter with deep house I never looked back. After learning the skills of dj’ng in 2002 that’s when I decided to take my talent to the masses. I started off playing at 21^st, weddings, Matric dances and I eventually got invites from the most happening clubs around Johannesburg which saw me play alongside top dj’s such as Mbuso, Ganyane, Tim White, Mandla (Jozi night), Monk, the late Iggy Smallz, The late Monde and other respected house music djs.

Biography:

I started collecting house music at a tender age of 14. My family couldn’t afford to buy me music equipment and vynals so when my peers were buying sweets I was saving my lunch money to buy a deep house music cassette. For me house music saved my life by keeping me too focused on it because growing up in the township you are faced with many challenges one being getting into drugs and crime. As a young boy I was determined to learn the skills of becoming the best dj, I started asking local dj’s to teach and mentor me but I was unsuccessful. In the year 2000 I met a friend by the name fifty. We were sharing the same passion and we decided to save up cash to purchase equipment and teach ourselves the art of mixing. It didn’t take me long to master the technique of mixing and started playing around my township hence I got the recognition as Dj Ovet.

Goal:

To be the number one recommended dj in South Africa and abroad and to contribute massively in social development.

Experience as a DJ:

Well six years in the industry, I’ve played at a number of clubs and a range of different DJ’s in all kinds of areas [North, South, East and West]. I always love going to play in Soweto [I feel so at home there, I just look a bit different]. The type of music I choose to play is more of an educating type, but don’t get it mixed up I can rock a crowd like mad!

Biography:

I started playing in 2004 when I took all my cash after getting paid my last salary [before going to Study IT], to buy equipment. After that it was parties and friends houses, private functions and so on. In 2005 I teamed up with a neighborhood friend Mr. Ram to create a group called “muzikly-Hi” [which consisted of myself, Mr. Ram c’Mo and Kella], I later [in 2007] joined a DJ agency called Vibrant DJ’s

[Where we had the like of Just Mo [Y-FM]], I then went on to join CandyRich Entertainment and Oxygen Productions [2009], which lead me to where I am, the Black Diamond Familia [2010].

Describe Your Style:	My style and track selection is very much dependent on the night and atmosphere of the event. As a producer I mostly cook up soulful, uplifting sweet house which I enjoy playing in a relaxed atmosphere. When the crowd wants to dance and that mysterious club feeling is lurking, then expect to hear a blend of minimal and progressive beats to keep the dancefloor packed.

On the spotlight this month we bring you Joburg’s next big thing, Blackdiamond’s very own deep house producer, Shaheedmo. Based in the north of Johannesburg, Shaheedmo has been with Blackdiamond Production from the inception and has been instrumental in shaping the brand as we know it. Our Sister company, Truedesign which is responsible for all our flyers and graphic design is headed by Shaheedmo and has seen us getting inquiries for our services from as far as Europe and North America.

Shaheedmo is primarily a deep, soulful, jazzy house producer although he branches out into other forms of dance including tech house, minimal and progressive house. He draws inspiration from the likes of Mark Farina, Afefe Iku, Carlos Mena, Marques Wyatt, and The Rurals.
